Program Mission:
The Department of Political Science and International Relations at Turkish-German University aims to educate individuals who can compete at the global level by providing critical thinking skills with German-language education and interdisciplinary approach. Students are trained as individuals who are committed to social responsibility and universal values while acquiring the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to be successful in the national and international arena.
Program Vision:
The Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Turkish-German University promotes Turkish-German academic cooperation for social benefit. It analyzes global politics with German education and interdisciplinary approach and produces qualified knowledge through international cooperation.
Program Educational Objectives:
1. Political Science and International Relations Undergraduate Program aims to train graduates who are equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge of global politics and international relations and who can develop solutions to social and economic problems.
2. Graduates of the Bachelor's Program in Political Science and International Relations are expected to be part of policy development and implementation processes in governmental institutions, diplomatic missions, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions at national and international level.
3. The Bachelor's Program in Political Science and International Relations aims to educate individuals with an interdisciplinary perspective who can communicate effectively in international academic and professional circles with German education.
4. Political Science and International Relations Undergraduate Program aims to train graduates who can make decisions in the fields of international cooperation and diplomacy, respecting universal values such as peace, human rights and social responsibility.
Concept:
TGU's international profile, including its connection to Germany is one of the distinguishing features of the department. Students benefit from innovative and interactive teaching methods as well as the excellent international academic staff.
Besides courses in political science and international relations, the interdisciplinary program offers education in application-oriented social science and neighboring disciplines such as law and business administration. The program also provides students with the opportunity to specialize in various fields with different elective courses.
Internship and training opportunities in Germany are supported in order to complement the international orientation beyond the course content and to promote students' intercultural skills. The languages of instruction are German, Turkish and, in some elective courses, English.
The program offers graduates career opportunities in national and international administrations, in market and political research, in the media sector, public relations or in companies and associations. The ability to analyse European and international political processes is becoming increasingly important for a career in international organizations, national administration and the privat sector.
The Bachelor's degree qualifies students for subsequent Master's studies. Graduates can apply for the Master's program in European and International Affairs at TGU or for Master's programs at other renowned Turkish, European or US universities. In the long term, this prepares students for an doctorate or an academic career.
Double Degree Program:
A memorandum of intent was signed between Chemnitz Technical University and the Turkish-German University for the double degree program. As a preliminary phase of this important process, the DAAD-YÖK Exchange Program has been launched as of the 2024-2025 academic year. Within the scope of the program, our selected students, who meet the conditions, will continue their educational activities for two semesters at Chemnitz Technical University in Germany with a DAAD-YÖK Exchange Program scholarship. As of the fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, 4 of our students participate in the program and are currently continuing their education at Chemnitz Technical University. In the future, it is aimed to develop the process and transition to a double degree. The Coordinators of the DAAD-YÖK Exchange Program are Prof. Dr. Kai Oppermann from Chemnitz Technical University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Turhan, faculty member of our department.
Minor Programs:
The program offers minor programs in collaboration with the departments of Business Administration, Sociology and Economics. These collaborations enable our students to gain expertise in different fields, enhancing our interdisciplinary approach.Our goal is to distinguish our graduates as well-rounded individuals in both their academic and professional lives.
Education Scheme:
Undergraduate program consists of 8 semesters including 240 ECTS points. 60 ECTS credit programs are envisaged for each academic year.
